Issue: May 2004NewsFull house for new business innovation parkFour months after the opening of Central Victoria's new business Innovation Park (CVIP), the complex is full, hosting a suite of leading regional-based IT businesses. The response from IT businesses augers well for the next stage of development for the Park which aims to contribute to regional economic growth by supporting innovation-based businesses and research and development opportunities. The Park has been designed, conceived and led by La Trobe University Bendigo, the City of Greater Bendigo and Bendigo Community Telco. It has been funded by a State Government Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) grant and is amongst the first publicly-funded University-endorsed technology innovation-based business parks in Victoria. CVIP Chair, Mr Ian Mansbridge, said when the Park was officially opened in October last year it had one major tenant - Bendigo Community Telco which operates a world-class Business Continuity Centre within the Park complex. 'The response from IT businesses has been very positive. The CVIP now accommodates four significant businesses - Bendigo Community Telco, Community Telco Australia, Objectify, and Science Traveller International. 'We are particularly pleased with the calibre of businesses the Park has attracted. These businesses recognise the value of being part of an innovation and technology hub that supports regional business ventures and the commercialisation of research and development,' Mr Mans-bridge said. Director of the Office of Business Development at La Trobe University Bendigo, Mr David Ensor, said the Park had fostered business partnerships that offered exciting new opportunities for regional Victoria. Both Objectify and Science Traveller International represent regional people educated at La Trobe University Bendigo who have set up innovative IT businesses serving national and international markets.
