La Trobe University Appointments

La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Michael Osborne, has announced several changes in the University's senior management structure.

Professor Osborne said that in line with the significant developments at the University's Albury-Wodonga and Mildura campuses, and reflecting the importance that the University attaches to its regional role, the Heads of Campus at both campuses will now be designated as Pro Vice-Chancellors.

The appointees are: Pro Vice-Chancellor (Albury-Wodonga Campus): Professor John Hill and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Mildura Campus): Professor Alan Frost. The appointments will bring Mildura and Albury-Wodonga into line with the Bendigo campus which is headed by Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Sullivan.

The third change is the appointment of Professor Stephen Duckett, Dean of the University's Faculty of Health Sciences, as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning).

Professor Osborne said that, in the light of the high priority set upon teaching and learning in the "Nelson package", and the substantial competitive sums available to universities which exhibit best practice, the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) has been created to strengthen the (already strong) commitment of the University in this area.

'The key task of the new position will be to develop student-focussed teaching and learning plans— complementing the activities of the Academic Development Unit,' Professor Osborne said.

Professor Stephen Duckett will take on his new role concurrently with his tenure of the Deanship of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
