Games Baton run for tourism

Lucy Hooper, a La Trobe University Honours graduate in Tourism Management, ran in the Queen’s Baton Relay representing Tourism Australia as a ‘Young Tourism Ambassador’.

Games Baton run for tourismMs Hooper, who graduated from La Trobe University’s main Melbourne campus at Bundoora in 2003, ran through Margaret River in WA in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games.

She was one of nine ‘Young Tourism Ambassadors’ – and the only Victorian – selected by Tourism Australia. The Ambassadors were chosen for their contribution to the tourism industry and to promote Australian holidays.

Since completing her studies at La Trobe, Ms Hooper has been working with Service Skills Victoria and recently founded the Young Tourism Network in Victoria to enhance career development and industry collaboration.

She also oversees the ‘Developing Tourism Leaders’ awards for which final-year tourism students submit business plans and winning entrants are eligible for industry placements.
