Vale: Oliver Heyward

A leading figure in the fields of religion and education, the Right Reverend Oliver Heyward, died late last year, aged 78.

Bishop Heyward was Bishop of Bendigo between 1975 and 1991 and a driving force behind the development of higher education in Bendigo.

He was also president of the former Bendigo College of Advanced Education - now La Trobe University Bendigo. The Heyward Library there perpetuates his name.

A former Rhodes Scholar and a respected leader in the Anglican Church nationally, Bishop Heyward is survived by his wife, four sons and their families.
