Employer of Choice for Women
Nearly one in three professors at La Trobe University is now a woman.
That — and the fact this is almost ten per cent higher than the higher education sector average – helped the University achieve its ninth ‘Employer of Choice for Women’ award open to industries nation-wide.
‘I am thrilled our commitment to equal opportunity has been recognised again,’ said Pro Vice-Chancellor (Equity and Student Services), Dr Kerry Ferguson.
Dr Ferguson said women at La Trobe comprised 28.18 per cent of the top academic rank of Professor, compared with the sector average of only 19.1 per cent. From 2006 to 2008 the University also exceeded the higher education national average for other senior academic positions including Associate Professor, and the number of women applying for promotion increased by 34 per cent over a similar period.
