Our world in crisis – La Trobe offers new media scholarships
Kenyan-born freelance photojournalist Kabir Dhanji and Megan Byrne from The Age newspaper have been awarded the La Trobe University Centre for Dialogue's first annual Media Scholarships.
The scholarships enable them to attend the Centre's ten-week Our World in Crisis course. Now in its seventh year, the course is led by Joseph Camilleri, Professor of International Relations and Director of the Centre for Dialogue.
The course comprises ten weekly evening sessions. It is held at the Fitzroy headquarters of Australian Volunteers International (AVI) and draws on the resources of supporting organisations including AVI, Oxfam Australia, Pax Christi, Psychologists for Peace, the Asia Education Foundation, the Islamic Council of Victoria, World Vision and the Victorian Council of Social Service.
Professor Camilleri says the scholarships are offered annually, both as a learning experience and an opportunity to participate in a cross-fertilisation of ideas on world affairs with the wider community.
The winners were selected from Australian and Australian-based foreign correspondents, through media organisations and the Sydney-based Foreign Correspondents Association, of which La Trobe University is a key sponsor.
