Definitions:

Awards/prizes

A prize or award is a reward for merit achieved after competition against other people.

  • A one-off payment or other reward given in recognition of academic results
  • Only given to continuing students
  • May be funded by the University or an external donor
  • May be undergraduate or postgraduate

Bursaries

A bursary is money given to provide aid to students on a needs basis.

  • Usually a one-off payment awarded to support academic studies
  • A sum of money given to a student to support their academic studies
  • May apply to commencing or continuing students
  • May be awarded on the basis of access and participation criteria, academic merit, meeting an industry need, or a combination of all three
  • May be funded by the University or an external donor
  • May be undergraduate or postgraduate

Awards, prizes and bursaries


The following awards, prizes and bursaries will be offered in 2017 and require students to apply. The closing date for applications is Thursday 4 May, 2017.

La Trobe Alumni Association Bendigo Chapter – Undergraduate Award $750

Awarded to a full-time student who has successfully completed all subjects in the first and second years of a course and has demonstrated a contribution to the welfare of the student community.

La Trobe Alumni Association Bendigo Chapter – Postgraduate Award $750

Awarded to support postgraduate study by a graduate of La Trobe University Bendigo Campus.

Bendigo Oral Health and Dentistry Society Bursary (Dentistry) $1,000

Awarded to a fourth year Bachelor of Health Sciences in Dentistry/Master of Dentistry student who is a current member of BOHDS and has demonstrated how they have contributed to the wider community in oral health promotion.

Bendigo Oral Health and Dentistry Society Bursary (Oral Health) $750

Awarded to a second year student undertaking the Bachelor of Oral Health to support them in their chosen summer elective and who has demonstrated how they have contributed to the wider community in oral health promotion.

The following awards and bursaries will be offered in 2017 but there is no need for students to apply. These awards and bursaries are based on academic merit and are determined by the appropriate School.

Holsworth Oral Health Bursary $1,000

Awarded to a third year Bachelor of Oral Health Science student for excellence in second year clinical practice and academic merit during the first two years of the course

Information Technology Professional Award $500

Awarded to an outstanding final year Information Technology student for their achievement in the subject Professional Environment.

Kylie Morrow Memorial Award $500

Awarded to the most outstanding full-time first year student in the Bachelor of Arts.

Lorna Cohn Memorial Pharmacy Prize  $250

Awarded to the student with the highest academic score across all subjects in the third year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy.

Mark Harrington Memorial Award $500

Awarded for academic merit to an information technology student who has successfully completed the first year of a degree course and is proceeding into the second year of the course.

Penfold Public Health Prize $250

Awarded to the student who has achieved the highest average score across three specific public health subjects.

R Robert Clark Memorial Award $750

Awarded to the most outstanding second year student undertaking the Bachelor of Arts.

T.A. McLelland Memorial Award  $750
Awarded to the student who has demonstrated academic excellence in chemistry.

Westate Social Work Award $250

Awarded to the social work student who achieved the highest mark in the subject Social Policy Analysis and Advocacy
