Research Project

Customisation of Pricing Offers to Industrial and Commercial Customers in Electricity Markets

Research Goal
In this project we investigate the use of data mining and intelligent techniques for prediction of energy consumption profiles of industrial customers belonging to one of the five electricity distribution companies in Melbourne, Australia.

This will also allow the company to customize their pricing offers to individual customers and optimizing their electric power costs.

Funding
$55000

Acknowledgements
This project was funded by Eastern Energy (a subsidiary of Texas Utilites, USA).

Problem Space
Since the deregulation of electricity markets in 1995/96 , the electricity distribution companies have been looking at developing competitive strategies for maximising their customer base as well as optimising the their cost of buying electric power from the Victorian Power exchange.

Demonstrations
A prototype has been developed with encouraging results.
