Technology Helps

More than 5,000 students from 200 schools were in the hunt of Victoria's Science Talent Search. STAV (Science Teachers Association of Victoria) were, trying to keep track of the entries at all stages of the judging process, involving 300 judges, 40 voluntary committees and 90 sponsors.

Software engineering students from La Trobe University have taken the bytes and come up with a practical project outcome - a Science Competition Management System. The new software has reduced entry and processing time; sped up information retrieval through bar coded input scanning; devised a menu driven friendly user interface; and enabled rapid printing of competition reports.

STAV is 'delighted with the software system, which not only implemented their core requirements to manage the annual Talent Search, but offered some novel enhancements.

The successful project also is a tangible demonstration to prospective employers of the engineering students' talents. Congratulations to all involved!
