What is FaST?
Fa.S.T. (Family Sensitive Training) is an approach and set of resources
developed by the Bouverie Centre aimed at increasing the sensitivity of
mental health services to families and carers. Fa.S.T. services help mental
health workers gain an appreciation of the impact of mental health problems
on the whole family and to use this appreciation to change the way services
are provided. The comprehensive basic training for workers, which includes
a strong service development component, is called Get Together FaST.
Advanced training (FaST extension courses) are available in specialised topics such as
substance abuse, and for professionals working in specific programs, such
as Crisis Teams or Mobile Support & Treatment Teams. Ongoing FaST support,
training and consultation is also available onsite to any mental health
agency. See FaST brochure to download services and costs.
Whilst FaST was originally designed for mental health services it is very
relevant and can be adapted to suit all health and welfare services.
Organisations interested in undertaking any FaST initiatives can contact
Jeff Young, Program Manager, Community Services.
