About This Booklet

The aim of this booklet is to help workers deal more effectively with some of the challenging behaviours which may occur after an aquired brain injury.

Dealing with some of the challenging behaviours that may result from ABI can be one of the hardest jobs a worker does. "When the going gets tough, workers (and families and the person with ABI) have to keep going."

This booklet is ideal for attendant carers, home helpers, nurses, allied health workers, teachers, aides, case-managers and managers. It provides innovative ideas on how to best approach difficult behaviours and provides practical strategies to assist workers respond effectively to them. The booklet looks at the complexities that workers face in assisting people with ABI and points to opportunities for creativity and problem solving in dealing with challenging behaviours.

This booklet covers the very specific topic area of challenging behaviours. It does not aim to provide the more general information about ABI that is essential for workers.

Practical scenarios and case examples are placed strategically throughout this well organised and easy read booklet.
