Timetable and Room Bookings

Videoconferencing

This campus currently has four teaching rooms which are set up with videoconferencing equipment; a large theatre (R6101) which has a seating capacity for 150 people, a smaller lecture room seating 72 people (R4101), and two smaller seminar rooms seating 32 people. All rooms provide for 2-way audio and 2-way video.

Videoconference hire fees and communication costs

Videoconferencing costs are additional to room hire costs. The Event Manager will provide an all inclusive quotation.

Videoconferencing charges consist of a technology hire fee plus communication costs, plus operator costs where applicable. No bookings will be accepted for Saturdays or Sundays.

Inter-campus videoconferences are via IP.

External sites can be connected via IP, but connection quality and reliability cannot be assured.

ISDN is preferred for external connections as ISDN guarantees speed and reliability.

When connecting via ISDN (telephone lines), costs can vary depending on the call speed rate selected for the call. The standard connection speed is 384 kbps, but 256 and 128 are available. Quality of videoconferences decreases as the transmission speed is decreased.

Internal videoconference bookings

Internal user videoconferences via IP are free, ISDN connections are charged out at cost. It is preferable that the external ISDN site dials in (and meets the ISDN cost).

External videoconference bookings

External clients will be quoted on communication costs, and it is required that any ISDN connections dial into La Trobe.

External clients can contact the Event Manager, External Conference/Events (Office of the Executive Director) by phone on (02) 6024 9820, or email on oed.aw@latrobe.edu.au who can assist in the scheduling and planning for a videoconference.
