Rural health is a key priority for reform across a number of countries due to major health inequalities. Many rural communities face major access and equity issues and socially determined disadvantage results in poorer health outcomes. However, there is increasing recognition that a one size fits all approach to rural health is ineffective as it fails to align healthcare services with local population need.
The La Trobe Rural Health School and three small rural communities are working together to ensure healthcare services meet community need and in the process producing knowledge that has international relevance.
