Student Hub projectPurposeA new Student Hub will be created and will combine all non-academic student services into a single building to be constructed on the ground floor of the Thomas Cherry Building at the entry to the “student axis” on the Bundoora campus. The building will centralise a range of student services including enrolment, legal and financial services, counseling, advocacy, transport services and accommodation sourcing. The new facility will also include a student lounge, project spaces and study facilities. This project will bring together scattered elements of administrative staff providing support and advice to students to the one, centrally accessible location and also provide study & learning space for students in a prominent ground level location on campus. The benefits of this component will be giving the student community a more streamlined and effective provision of face-to-face support services in the one location and additional semi-formal and informal study space on campus. This collocation of service provisions and informal space enables the student services to expand in times of peak demand into the study space, and then contract back during the bulk of the term when students require a range study locations. FundingThe Student Hub Project is fully funded from the Better University Renewal Fund (BURF) in the amount of $4.58 million. Work DetailsThe work involves the complete refurbishment of level 1 of the Thomas Cherry Building. To allow this refurbishment, there are a number of decanting stages which are necessary. These will be undertaken as a separate contract during 2009 with a completion date of 15 Feb 2010. Construction Period
