Wodonga student association extension

Purpose

To extend and upgrade the Wodonga Student Association building and facilities which services the needs of La Trobe University and Wodonga Institute of TAFE student populations.

Reason for the project

The University campus needed basic sporting and recreational facilities development. This included a weights/fitness room, change rooms/toilets, indoor/outdoor recreational space, improved office accommodation, kitchen renovations and an external hard court.

The nearest sporting facilities are located approximately 4 kms from the Campus and with 1100 University students and over 100 staff an urgent upgrade to the facilities were needed. Also there are 70 places for on-campus students across both TAFE and University within close proximity.

Funding

VSU Transition Funding 2 from the Federal Government.
Stage 1: Gym Project $164,950 (excl GST)
Stage 2: Student Amenities Building Extension $849,500 (excl GST).

Work Details

Construction of the Gymnasium was completed in December 2007 with the Extension to the Student Amenities building completed in May 2009.  The extension included a renovation to the kitchen and bar facilities, office and storeroom extensions, change rooms and toilets, outdoor hard court, new café area and improved recreational areas within the existing building with associated furniture and equipment.

Construction Period

The works began on Stage 2 from the end of the exam period, November 2008 through to mid May 2009.

Project Manager

The architect was Jovaras Westland Partnership, and the builder Graeme Berry Constructions overseen by Greg Gow and David Buckle (La Trobe University) and Damien Crawley (Wodonga Institute of TAFE).
