Service of Co Generation plantPurposeThe co generation plant has been shut down for up to 8 weeks to enable essential maintenance to be carried out on the gas turbine. This work is required to be carried out every 3 to 4 years depending on running hours. During this time the plant will not be available to supply emergency power to the University. However, the likelihood of power outages has been found to be less at this time of the year and critical areas such as the Animal, House, Computer Centre and Medical Centre all have emergency generators to provide power if required. Reason for the projectTo ensure the ongoing reliability and safety of the co generation plant, as well as insurance requirements, the gas turbine must be overhauled and inspected in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. FundingThis work is planned maintenance work funded from the LTU Power Station budget. Work DetailsTo disassemble, inspect, test, reassemble and recommission the gas turbine.
