Bus Service Improvements

Purpose

To improves bus services to the Bundoora Campus.

Reason for the project

In 2007 Sustainable Transport Officer Matt Salter identified key gaps in public transport services to La Trobe. These included connections to local rail services and connections to the eastern suburbs.

Funding

12 Month trial costing approximately $700,000 from the Victorian Department of Infrastructure (now Transport).

Work Details

  • 5 new daily services in each direction for the 551 Heidelberg to La Trobe University bus reducing peak headways from 30 minutes to 15 minutes.
  • 21 new daily services in each direction on the 561 Reservoir to Macleod via La Trobe University bus to reduce the daytime headways from 30 minutes to 20 minutes and extend the service until 10pm.
  • Timetable improvements to improve the connection between the 551 and the 291 Box Hill to Heidelberg via Doncaster buses. This vastly improved the Bundoora Campus’ connectivity with the eastern suburbs and the Belgrave and Lilydale train lines.

Trial

February 2008 to February 2009.

Further discussions will take place with the Victorian Department of Tansport and bus operators to bring additional public transport improvements on line over the coming months and years.
