University historyOther campuses
The Albury-Wodonga campus was established on a "green field" site at McKoy Street, with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Osborne laying a foundation stone in December 1994. The site encompasses the former Parkers Road and is adjacent to the Wodonga TAFE. A master plan was prepared by Sweetnam Godfrey and Ord Architects prior to construction commencing and the first buildings were completed for occupation in June, 1995. The initial infrastructure included the construction of the first lake and installation of major underground services. The Mount Buller Campus was opened in June, 1997 and is accommodated in a single building on a spectacular site close to the entrance to the mountain village. The multi-level structure is designed for future expansion. The Beechworth Campus was acquired in December, 1996, being the former Mayday Hills Hospital. The buildings and grounds of the central campus are heritage listed, having been established in the nineteenth century. The buildings are being progressively renovated to establish the University’s operations with the heritage buildings being restored in keeping with their architectural style. There are also a significant number of quality modern buildings which are suited to academic operations. The landscape of the campus is of particular interest due to its age and its range of species. A Landscape Heritage Assessment has been prepared by John Patrick Pty Ltd to facilitate conservation of important material and assist in the operational care and replanting programs. A master plan for the development of the campus is in preparation by Hassell. The university also has Regional presences in Mildura and Shepparton. These operations are accommodated in buildings leased from the respective TAFE campuses. Content Approved by: Director, Buildings and Grounds Division
