Electrical Supply and High Temperature Hot Water shutdown 2009

General Information

To minimise the inconvenience to users, the annual maintenance electrical supply shutdown will be carried out during the period 10th January to 17th January 2009 inclusive. Please make yourself aware of these changes and how they will effect your departments.

The maintenance program is designed to reduce the possibility of unscheduled power interruptions during the academic year and your co operation and assistance in this matter will be appreciated.

The following shutdown program is submitted for your information, please ensure all staff are aware of the shutdown dates and times.

It is the responsibility of departments to ensure all computers and/or equipment are switched off prior to the shutdown period to reduce the risk of surges occurring when the power is restored and to restart any equipment after the power is restored.

In departments or areas where temporary power supply is required it is the responsibility of the department area to provide a person to instruct the maintenance staff and assist in the power supply changeover.

The hire and installation of emergency power generators for essential power supply during the shutdown period can be arranged by contacting the Electrical Supervisor by Friday 21st November 2008.

Mechanical Maintenance shutdown

The boilers and high temperature hot water system serving the inner campus areas and colleges will be shut down next year from Saturday 11th January 2009 until Monday 19th January 2009 to enable essential annual maintenance work to be carried out.

During this period, the following services will be unavailable:

  • Heating in most buildings
  • Air conditioning in the Library, West Lecture Theatres, Health Sciences 3 (NW11), Beth Gleeson (SW4), Physical Sciences 2 (SW2), Hued Complex (SE2, SE4 & SE6)
  • Steam generators in R L Reid Building (NW6), Biological Sciences 1 & 2 (NW3, NW7) and the Union
  • Domestic hot water in various buildings including SARA and the Agora
  • Swimming pool heating in SARA
