Careers

Bendigo's two Regional Careers Consultant assist current students and recent graduates to make informed career, course and employment decisions, and facilitate students' preparation to enter into the workforce. They do this through consultations with individual students and the provision of workshops and seminars. The Careers Consultants also deliver lectures as part of academic programs and maintain links between the Faculties and employers in order to facilitate the appropriate placement of students and graduates

 

Individual Consultations

Careers consultants can assist current students and recent graduated in the following areas:

  • Preparing for employment including preparing resumes/CV's. letters of application, addressing key selection criteria, and understanding the interview process.
  • Understanding employment opportunities for graduates from various disciplines
  • Choosing courses to suit career goals

Appointments can be made via Career Hub www.latrobe.edu.au/careers/ or through reception staff in Student Support Services and by phone on 5444 7223.

Workshops
The Careers Consultants run workshops within lectures but also workshops of a more general nature which are open to all students. Topics covered include graduate employment, resume writing, cover letters, interview skills, career planning and opportunities for work experience.


Careers Resources
Student Support Services also has a range of resources including: a range of pamphlets on job seeking, local and overseas careers information, access to employer information on the internet, handbooks from many Australian universities, daily newspapers and much more. The Essential Careers Guide, a book written by Careers and Employment, full of resources for students can be purchased for $5 at the Student Support Reception desk.

Career Hub, La Trobe’s own online jobs data base, has a comprehensive list of  current job vacancies that students can access at any time.  Employment opportunities range from one day events to regular part time and ongoing graduate positions.  To register, go to the Careers and Employment website at http://www.latrobe.edu.au/careers and click on the link to Career Hub.
