Dean's lecture
The Dean’s Lecture is historically a public lecture given by a member of La Trobe University’s Bendigo campus staff selected by the Dean of the Faculty. Each year, a different Faculty conducts the Dean’s Lecture on a topic of their choice that is of interest to both the University and the General Public.
In 2009, Professor Hal Swerissen, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Regional) and Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, La Trobe University delivered "The Future of Regional Higher Education in Australia" on Tuesday 28 April in the Circular Lecture Theatre, La Trobe University Bendigo campus. Professor Swerissen encouraged the development of a National framework for Higher Education with Local strategic planning and delivery. He suggested that Higher Education in regional communities is imperative to their development both economically and culturally as well as offering alternative methods for the delivery of Higher Education in Regional areas such as Bendigo. Many questions and comments were offered to Professor Swerissen at the conclusion of his delivery and consequently saw the recently refurbished Circular Lecture Theatre become a hub of knowledge exchange on this very topical issue.
