Accommodation

On campus

Students have access to a wide range of on-campus accommodation options with over 500 places available in Bendigo.

Each residence has a social club and live-in staff that provide residential care and encourage students’ academic and personal development.

Off campus

The Bendigo Student Association online marketplace lists private board, rental property and share house vacancies. You can also advertise for accommodation wanted.

Art

The Phyllis Palmer Gallery is a space dedicated to showing new work by graduates, current students and associates of La Trobe University Visual Arts as well as those that have had connections with La Trobe University.

The Visual Arts Centre is open to students and the general public. Regular exhibitions of contemporary art are displayed by Visual Arts staff, artists-in-residence and other practising artists.

Bike lockers, bike racks and showers

Fifty-six bike lockers are available in five areas of the campus and are free to hire for Bendigo Student Association Platinum Members or $10 per year for others. A refundable $50 lock deposit also applies. Shower facilities are also provided on campus.

There are a number of bike racks available for students and staff who choose to cycle to the University.

Car parking

Parking is available on campus. For more information on how to obtain a parking permit, visit the Getting here and parking page.

Catering

A catering service is available for hire. Further information about the service can be obtained from our conference facilities page.

Community garden

‘The patch’ community garden group has been established since 2010, growing and selling produce while also providing a space for sharing ideas and gardening skills. More information about ‘the Patch’ is available by contacting the Bendigo Student Association.

Computer labs

For computer services and information, students are encouraged to contact student IT support.

Conference and event facilities

The Brockley auditorium, located in the University’s Visual Arts Centre at 121 View Street, seats up to 100 people and includes audio-visual facilities. The auditorium and a smaller room are available for public hire for seminars and conferences. For more information contact bendigo@latrobe.edu.au.

Residential Services provides high quality residences for accommodating nearly 600 students and visiting scholars and conference facilities. The residences are ideal for group bookings and conferences over the summer break with quality catering available through Food for Thought.

The Bendigo Student Association’s Evolution Sports and Fitness Centre sports hall and multi-purpose room are available for hire to community members.

Gymnasium

Evolution Sports and Fitness Centre is located within the Bendigo campus grounds and offers excellent facilities to meet the fitness needs of students and staff.

Lockers and powered lockers

There are 128 lockers available in the Student Union for student use. The lockers are provided free of charge, however students must bring their own padlock or purchase a suitable padlock from Runes. Lockers are cleared daily by campus security staff. Information about lost property can be obtained from campus security on 0418 510 010. Powered lockers are also available on campus.

Retail

The Co-op Bookshop is open Monday to Thursday 9am–5pm and Friday 9am–1pm.

Runes Student Association Shop in the Student Union Building sells a range of items to meet student needs including newspapers, magazines, stationery, phonecards, memory sticks and blank CDs, stamps, La Trobe merchandise and toiletries.

Sweeney's Café (Student Union Building) is run by the Bendigo Student Association. Sweeney’s staff can be contacted on 03 5444 7448 or email sweeneys@bsabendigo.com.au.

Pulse Café is operated by the Bendigo Student Association and is located in the foyer of the Health Sciences Building (just outside the McKay Lecture Theatre).

Food for Thought operates the cafeteria in the Student Union building and can be contacted on 03 5444 7871 or email cafe@latrobe.edu.au.

Sports and recreation

The Bendigo Student Association’s Evolution Sports and Fitness Centre offers a range of sporting and fitness facilities for students, including a gym and a sports hall for indoor sports such as basketball, volleyball and indoor soccer. Social sports competitions and group fitness classes offer you the chance to keep fit and connect with other students. Community memberships are available.

La Trobe University’s athletic complex located in Retreat Road, Spring Gully can be hired by community members. For enquiries and bookings, phone 03 54 45 8300 during business hours or contact the YMCA Facilities Manager after hours on 0417 371 208.
