Returning to study

The University acknowledges that many students who apply for courses at La Trobe are returning to study in one way or another. They may be commencing study after many years away from secondary level education, building on existing TAFE qualifications, completing an additional degree or undertaking further study at postgraduate level.

The campus supports such students through a variety of activities.

University Bridging Program (UBP)

The University Bridging Program (UBP) gives mature-age students (people who are at least 21 years of age at course commencement) the opportunity to undertake a part-time preparatory course, before returning to study.

The ASU facilitates the delivery of this low-cost program in the second semester of the year, from mid-July to early December. Please note that the course is not confined to prospective students intending to study at La Trobe University.

The University Bridging program summary provides a basic outline of the course details.

Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)

The Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT), devised by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), is designed to test a range of skills commonly considered important for academic success at tertiary level. It is used by some tertiary institutions, including La Trobe, as an additional component of the application process.

The campus offers a STAT Preparation Workshop which focuses on preparing for the two-hour STAT Multiple Choice Test. The main aim of the workshop is to explore the nature of the questions and the test so that candidates become less anxious about sitting the STAT. The workshop is held annually early in October.

Campus staff also participate in an intensive Return to Study Weekend facilitated by the four Albury-Wodonga tertiary institutions, held early in February (subject to sufficient numbers).
