Description of imageThe Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is arguably the strongest among its peers in the country in terms of the significant books published by its members in a wide range of areas of scholarship.

The Faculty has provided three of the last six incumbents of the Chair of Australian Studies at Harvard.

A number of the Faculty’s staff play a prominent role in public discussion, especially in the national media, on cultural, social and political affairs.

The Faculty has a strong presence at national conferences, writers’ festivals and lecture series such as the Alfred Deakin Federation Lectures, and the Edmund Barton Lectures.

Staff of the Faculty have a distinguished record in research both nationally and internationally.
