Australian Studies
A History of Indigenous Australia

- Length: 3 Weeks
- Cost: AUD2500 (does not include accommodation)
- Course dates: Projected for April/May 2008
The course examines some of the great themes in Australian Indigenous prehistory and history: what are the origins of Aboriginal people and how did they confront European colonisation? It traces human settlement from the earliest colonisation to the present day. Students will study the dramas of colonial entanglements from 1788 to the present, with a particular focus on south-eastern Australia. Students will also examine frontier contacts, racial ideas, the era of protection and control, efforts to assimilate Aboriginal people and the struggle for indigenous rights.
