Australian StudiesThe Edge of the Outback
This course consists of a Photographic journey exploring a regional Australian outback landscape using the mediums of photography, printmaking and multimedia. The workshop is designed to develop the students' visual thinking and to introduce them to individual visual problem solving related to the media. Workshops and fieldtrips will provide the platform for exploration of imagery based on the region's ancient landscape and the sociological layering created by pre and post-colonial influences. A local Aboriginal art student will be designated to the visiting students to assist in the transition into the cultural 'specifics of space and place'. Students will be encouraged to respond creatively with media ranging from traditional reproduction technologies through to new digital and video applications. The students will have the opportunity to have their work exhibited in a Regional Art Gallery at the conclusion of the program. See course outline (Word - 32 KB) for a more detailed analysis.
