La Trobe University has set up a listserv to provide information and enable AURIMS members to raise risk management and insurance-related issues with other members.
The list is only as good as the degree to which members use it - if a member raises a question and another member has information which could be useful, to the enquirer, a reply can be either:-
1. Via the listserv (so all members can see the comments)
2 Direct to the member if it is intended to keep the comments confidential.
What is a listserv?
A listserv is a means to distribute Email to a wide audience. A message sent to a listserv is distributed to everyone subscribed to the group.
Using a listserv is a way to maintain interactive e-mail discussion groups and can be used for project co-ordination, customer service, technical assistance, virtual social gatherings, and forums about any topic of interest. In other words, improve the communication channels within any organisation or group and involve all members through their participation.
The widespread use of e-mail has supplied a convenient way for people to communicate around the world. Whereas traditional e-mail is ideal for one-on-one interaction, a listserv will advance the concept a step further by broadcasting a single message simultaneously to a group of people. Everyone can write to the list and in doing so, all members will receive a copy of the message. In this way discussions can take place and views exchanged among a large number of people.
The object of the AURIMS listserv is to cater for all interaction between AURIMS members, facilitate ongoing discussions among members, and provide a simple and effective method of asking questions or seeking opinions from other members.
