Ex(posed)
This exhibition focuses on photographic images of the human form. There is an unquestionable fascination associated with images of people. As spectators we have traditionally been asked to either identify with, or participate in, the objectification of the human subject. This selection of both pre- and post-digital photo media works examines notions of the 'gaze', voyeurism, power and the dynamics between viewer, photographer and subject.
18 April – 26 May 2006
Recent Acquisitions: 2004 – 2005
The La Trobe University Art Collection is not a stagnant and historical collection but rather continues to engage and grow. The exhibition highlights key acquisitions to the collection during 2004 and 2005.

The Print World of P. Neville Barnett
Sydney-based P. Neville Barnett (1881-1953) wrote and published twenty-four limited edition print art books in his lifetime. Barnett in his role as a dealer, author and book designer was part of the Sydney milieu of print artists and enthusiasts in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. Barnett developed an early interest in the print art of western style bookplates, predominantly black and white artworks. He was later drawn to the colourful and exotic world of Japanese woodblock prints, his other great passion. This exhibition presents wonderful examples of his superfine books, original bookplate prints by Australian artists, and a selection of Japanese woodblock prints from the old Barnett collection. Curated by Dr. Diane Kraal
A new comprehensive book, written by Diane Kraal, investigating P. Neville Barnett's life and art is available. For further information visit http://barnettweb.tripod.com/index.htm.

Between the Covers: printmakers, books and narrative
Reflecting P. Neville Barnett’s interest in books and bookplates, this exhibition brings together prints from the collection which, suggest a narrative, in some cases explicit, in others barely suggested. There will also be some consideration of the artist’s book, which has developed as a rich and diverse form of production for printmakers in recent years; both books produced by individual artists and as folios produced by groups of artists. Curated by Penny Peckham.
24 July – 25 August 2006

Not Just Dots: Aboriginal Art from the La Trobe University Art Collection
The exhibition showcases the varied approach of Indigenous artists. As the title suggests Indigenous artworks are more than the now popular dot paintings from the Central Desert area. The exhibition presents key Aboriginal artworks from the La Trobe University Art Collection including works on canvas and paper, barks, prints and photography.
