Articulation Agreements
La Trobe University now has a University model for TAFE articulation agreements.
There will be one umbrella ‘Articulation Agreement’ between the University and any other institution. A PDF format precedent Articulation Agreement, containing the contract and an appended Schedule, is available on the Legal Services website in the ‘Standard Contracts’ section - and in the box to the right.
To complete an agreement, annotate the PDF document as required and forward it to Legal Services for the drawing up of a standard contract for signature by the Vice-Chancellor and the CEO of the relevant Institution. It will first need to be endorsed by the Programs Committee and the Curriculum Teaching and Learning Committee.
All necessary steps in the process are outlined in the ‘Guidelines’ document.
Tables (available at right in MSWord format) for different programs will contain the detail of articulation arrangements for participating programs and La Trobe courses and any conditions imposed by either party. Tables will form attachments to the umbrella Articulation Agreement and will need to go through Faculty and University approval processes as detailed in the attached ‘Guidelines’ and flowchart. They may be approved by the Programs Committee and the Curriculum Teaching and Learning Committee at the same time as the initial Articulation Agreement, or may be added later as opportunities for articulation arrangements are identified.
Where possible, the Tables will specify subject credits by name, rather than generic statements based on the ANTA/AVCC guidelines. For programs with multiple electives (like the Bachelor of Arts), the number of credit points or subjects for which credits will be granted should be specified.
The process for establishing an offshore articulation agreement are very similar - the documents at right provide full details. The most important difference is that an offshore agreement may be facilitated by La Trobe International or other parties, but must be endorsed by a Faculty.
Domestic articulation agreements may be endorsed by either a Faculty or a Campus.
Existing agreements should be moved to the new formats after the existing arrangements expire, if there is a desire to continue the association.
