Thesis title

Beyond Teachers’ Discretion: Do Australian Schools Support GLBTIQ Students?

Thesis description:

There have been significant changes to the way sexuality is considered in Australian education policy in recent times. The Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians (MCEETYA, 2008) outlines the provision of schooling that is free from discrimination based on gender or sexual orientation within its first national goal. Responding to such changes, this study explores whether gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, intersex and ‘Queer’ students (GLBTIQs) are supported in Australian schools. It investigates national and state level policies, programming and practice relating to issues of sexuality in schools. It is concerned with both the public and private sectors, and stakeholders on all sides of education policy.
