Disability Studies, Social Policy, Special Education.
I completed my PhD in the School of Social Work and Social Policy at LaTrobe University. My thesis was a qualitative study of the participatory experiences of people with an intellectual disability on government disability advisory bodies. The focus of my research with and for people with an intellectual disability over the past twenty years has been advocacy, self advocacy, sexuality and relationships. I am particularly interested in inclusive research methodology and the development of inclusive research practice with people with an intellectual disability. |

2009 – 2011 Living Safer Sexual Lives: Respectful Relationships.
This project is funded by the Australian Government under the respectful relationships program as part of the National Plan to reduce violence against women and their children. This two year project will develop, implement and evaluate a peer led primary prevention of violence against women program with people with an intellectual disability and other cognitive disabilities and undertake research on the effectiveness of this model and on the broader issue of violence and abuse prevention for this group. The Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society is undertaking this project in partnership with Women with Disabilities Australia (WWDA). |
