Gillian Fletcher - PhD student

Disciplinary expertise

Primary discipline: Applied linguistics

Broad approach

I use applied linguistics as a technique for identifying and analysing the discourses of HIV prevention education in developing countries –

  • which prevention messages get spoken?
  • Who determines which messages get spoken, and how and why these choices are made?
  • What is left unsaid?

From this starting point, my interest is in investigating possibilities for the development of more transformational, critically reflective approaches to HIV prevention.
