| Disciplinary expertise |
I registered as a nurse in the early 1980s and spent much of the next decade working in aged care. Highlights included the wonderful people I cared for and the dynamic, interdisciplinary teams I worked with.
My aged care experience led to interest in making sense of work place change. My curiosity was triggered after I received feedback from a client about the need to improve tube feeding decisions. In response, I coordinated an interdisciplinary taskforce to evaluate and improve tube feeding practices. The program resulted in significant improvements to client care and the publication of guidelines in Gastrostomy Care: A guide for practice (www.ausmed.com.au)
Similarly, as a unit manager and Co Director of a business I worked with aged care service providers to promote the sexual and sensual needs of clients, including the development of education programs, policies and guidelines for practice. I have explored the processes of change while working as a Consultant with the National Ageing Research Institute and as a quality assessor with the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency and in my PhD thesis. |
| Broad approach |
I am passionate about working with people; teamwork; voice; story; sense making; integrity; diversity; systems thinking and strategic action. |
