Brief profile

Dr Dyson worked in sexuality education and women’s health for many years as an educator, and after many years of practice she completed a PhD in health sciences. She heads the culture change research program at ARCSHS, where she is a senior research fellow. Broadly speaking, her work concerns the social and cultural meanings of the lived experience sexuality and gender, particularly in relation to the prevention of violence and discrimination. She works predominantly using qualitative methods, and is experienced in using mixed methods. Her theoretical paradigm tends towards post structural, however this incorporates an understanding that discursive and material elements are always intertwined in the social. Sue is particularly interested in creative, cross, multi and inter-disciplinary approaches to social research.
