Blood borne virus program

The Blood Borne Virus Program at ARCSHS focuses on education and liaison around Blood Borne Viruses (BBVs) which include HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.

The BBV Program is coordinated by Jen Johnson. Her responsibilities include the organising and facilitation of a range of  opportunities for health workers to update knowledge and expand practice skills. This includes specialist training programs, seminars and peer-support forums.

Course in Health - HIV and hepatitis C Testing

The Blood Borne Virus (BBV) Program runs the Course in Health - HIV and hepatitis C Testing.

This course is designed for health care workers  to equip them for pre- and post- HIV and hepatitis C antibody test discussion with their clients, and provide prevention education.

The course duration is four and a half days. It runs at least three times a year.On completion participants receive Department of Health accreditation as a person competent to engage in HIV and hepatitis C pre- and post-testing discussion.

BBV Update Forum

BBV Update Forum is a series of seminars on topics related to hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. Recent topics have included  Hepatitis C and Mental Health, HIV and the Media, and Spotlight on Chronic  Hepatitis B.

BBV Networks

The BBV Program coordinates the Educational  Strategic Network, a network of BBV health promotion professionals who meet  bimonthly to share information,  critique, and strategy.

The BBV Program also convenes the Victorian  Hepatitis B Alliance, an independent, multi disciplinary group that aims to  build momentum behind the Victorian response to hepatitis B.
