Archaeology Program

Teaching

The Archaeology Program at La Trobe is the largest and most active university archaeology Program in Australia, offering the broadest range of interests. Our teaching reflects the excitement and great breadth of archaeology, and also provides training in practical aspects of archaeological research through a wide array of active research programs which include:

  • Australian Indigenous archaeology
  • Historical  archaeology, using material evidence to investigate the modern world Origins of humanity, excavating sites
  • First farmers, examining early farming sites in Jordan
  • Bronze Age village life, research on a 4,000 year old village in Cyprus
  • Chinese archaeology, using surveys to investigate the origins of civilisation in China
  • Maya society, fieldwork in Mexico dealing with Maya temples and writing systems.

PhD (research)

Archaeology is currently only available to students at the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus.
