Archaeology Program
Honours Program
The Honours Year forms a bridge between the structured world of undergraduate learning and the more individualistic spheres of postgraduate research and employment in public archaeology. The Honours year requires the student to develop the initiative required to cross from one realm to the other.
Course Structure
Two coursework subjects - completed in the first semester
The coursework subjects, offer seminar-style classes with strong emphasis placed on student participation.
- Issues in Contemporary Archaeology (ARC4ICA)
In ARC4ICA you will revisit some major and enduring issues in contemporary archaeology and address some of the research and writing skills involved in becoming a serious scholar and professional archaeologist.
- Practical Archaeology (ARC4PRA)
In ARC4PRA, the emphasis is on the techniques of field archaeology with students developing skills used in the survey and recording of archaeological sites and landscapes.
A thesis is completed in the second semester
The writing of the thesis is a more solitary path, carried out under the guidance of a supervisor. The thesis is chiefly designed to test the student’s potential to conduct individual academic research, and abilities to conceive and carry out a research plan, to analyse and interpret data, to construct arguments in a logical and persuasive manner, and to produce a substantial piece of work competently.
Entry Requirements
