Transferring from another univeristy to LaTrobe

Although VTAC applications have now closed, select courses may still offer direct application.

If you're in NSW and applying to a course at La Trobe's Albury-Wodonga or Mildura campuses, you may still apply through UAC.

In addition to meeting Normal Entry requirements, its important to note that you must satisfy the specific requirements of the specific course(s) for which you apply. You can find information about entry requirements for all La Trobe courses in Find a course. These may include prerequisite VCE studies (for example, completion of and often a minimum score in particular VCE subjects), folio presentation, supplementary information or vaccinations/clearances for clinical or professional placements. If you don't satisfy the relevant extra requirements you may not gain selection, even if you have high academic results.

If you're required to attend an interview or to supply additional information, you'll need to demonstrate a range of attributes. These might include personal motivation, relevant experience, and/or an understanding of the course and its aims. If you're required to submit a folio of artwork, you should present the work you feel best represents your ideas and abilities, and demonstrates originality, imagination and experimentation as well as competence in the basic skills required in your chosen course.

A transfer from one course into another course at La Trobe is not available automatically. Since the number of applicants frequently exceeds the number of places available, all applications are considered on the basis of academic merit and offers of places are made to those applicants chosen by the Selection Committee for the appropriate course within the University. This normally takes place in January/February each year.

If you're not an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a permanent Australian resident, contact La Trobe International for information about studying at La Trobe as an international student.

Credit for previous study

If you've studied at a TAFE, university or other post-secondary institution, you may be eligible for credit for some or all of your studies when you enrol in a La Trobe course. (The relevant La Trobe faculty determines your eligibility when you actually enrol.)

A request for credit is considered only after a student has been offered a place, accepted it and completed the enrolment procedures.

In general, credits for subjects already passed are granted when it is considered that they are equivalent in content and standard to those currently offered by the University and when they are of relevance to the students planned course of study. At La Trobe University, credit is known as advanced standing. Each Faculty has different policies in respect to the number and type of units and work experience eligible for advanced standing.

Students who are currently studying at TAFE or considering completing studies at TAFE are advised to refer to the credit for previous study website. On this site you will find information about the credit you will receive if your application is successful.

Current La Trobe students wishing to transfer to another La Trobe course

If you are a current La Trobe University student and you wish to transfer to a new course you must complete the application for course transfer form and submit to the faculty you wish to transfer to. It is advised that you discuss your transfer with the relevant Faculty office.

Students who wish to transfer from the same course, but to another campus (for example from Bendigo to Melbourne) must first seek the advice of the Faculty before completing the application for course transfer form.  Note transfer from one campus to another is not automatically available for select courses.

Please note - it you have deferred a course for a selected campus (and have not commenced your study), and now wish to study at a different campus of La Trobe University you must reapply for the course at that particular campus.

Each faculty has different submission deadlines, check with the Faculty you wish to transfer to for the cut off dates.

Until the transfer is approved, you must re-enrol in your initial course.
