Tim Murray - Professor of Archaeology and Head

Tim Murray is Project Chief Investigator. He is Professor of Archaeology at La Trobe University and has published widely in urban archaeology and in other areas of his research interests which include the history and philosophy of archaeology, theoretical archaeology, Australian prehistoric and historical archaeology, and archaeological heritage management.

Penny Crook
Penny Crook is Project Archaeologist. She graduated from the University of Sydney in 1999 with first-class honours, specialising in urban historical archaeology. She was awarded the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority’s Heritage Prize in 2000 for her thesis ‘The Meaningless Public Smile: Housing, Mass Consumption and Material Ambiguity in the Rocks, Sydney (c1833–c1931)’. From 1998 to 2000, she worked as a consultant researcher for Godden Mackay Logan and other Sydney-based consultants, on a variety of archaeological and heritage-management projects. Her interests include international historical archaeology, domestic consumption, artefact cataloguing and database design and management.

Laila Ellmoos
Laila Ellmoos is Project Historian. She graduated from the University of Sydney in 1995, with honours in History. She is currently completing a Masters in Public History at the University of Technology, Sydney. Laila is involved in the project on a part time basis, and also works as a historical researcher based in Sydney.
