Dr David Hoxley Cancer Treatment Research

Over ten years ago, Dr Hoxley contracted a multiple myeloma. As he underwent chemotherapy, Dr Hoxley realised that while more cancers have become treatable, they have also become more expensive to treat. Through his own experience and his research, is examining ways to make cancer treatments effective and to improve patients’ quality of life.

The aim of this research is to develop an implantable biosensor which will monitor the immune system of patients undergoing strong chemotherapy. This biosensor could then be connected to a portable drug pump so drugs can be delivered continuously at a rate to best kill cancer without harming the patient.

Your donation will be used to buy equipment and supplies (yes, including diamonds) for experiments to work out how diamond surfaces can be made sensitive to the cells and molecules of the body’s immune system.

The role of emerging scientists is central to this research. The goal of the research is ambitious, and requires techniques from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Electronic Engineering. All gifts are linked to well-defined research projects, each taking one step towards the ultimate goal.

A copy of the final project report, summarising the progress you have supported will be available upon request.  To request a copy or to find out more about this exciting research project please email Dr David Hoxley.
