How would you describe the path you have taken to get you to where you are today?
I haven’t exactly followed a direct path but that’s what makes life interesting. I fell into IT by accident, starting at the most junior level and working across a range of roles within the Utilities, Telco and Financial Services industries. IT moves at such a pace - it’s an interesting area to get into, especially now that the digital era is well and truly upon us.
Do you have a personal philosophy that you bring to your work?
You’re only as good as the team around you and I’ve been privileged to have been part of some amazing teams, delivering some outstanding innovations for our customers. You can’t beat a high performing team!
What has been your greatest career highlight?
I would have to say my most recent appointment as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Bank of Queensland.
What has been your greatest career challenge? How did you navigate this challenge?
Managing the technical program for the merger between Bendigo Bank and Adelaide Bank – I spent alternate weeks in each of the two cities. While this was progressing, I was also studying for my MBA and being mum to a teenager. All said, I couldn’t have achieved what I did without the support of family and friends.
Do you have any advice for those starting out in their careers?
Work hard, don’t be afraid to put your hand up to help, it’s a great experience to try things out and you never know, this experience may result in new opportunities.
Where to from here?
Well, in the last two years I’ve moved from Bendigo Bank (Bendigo) to ING Direct (Sydney) and I am about to move to Bank of Queensland (Brisbane) – no further moves north for me after this!
What is your lasting impression of La Trobe?
Thoroughly enjoyed my time at La Trobe – it's great to have access to high quality courses and lecturers in the regional areas.
