La Trobe Alumni Awards

La Trobe University takes great pride in the achievements of its alumni and presents a select number of awards each year to those who have demonstrated significant personal, community and/or professional achievement. These awards also honour inspirational leadership and exceptional human qualities. The two categories of Alumni Awards presented are:

Distinguished Alumni Award

Awarded to eminent La Trobe University alumni who have demonstrated significant accomplishments in their personal and professional life, or for service to their community, state or nation.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Nominees must be an alumnus or alumna of La Trobe University (or an antecedent institution) who has, over an extensive and sustained period of time, demonstrated one or more of the following:

Outstanding professional achievements

a. Recognised as leader/expert in their field.
b. Significant achievement(s) throughout their career.
c. Evidence of ethical and/or innovative sustainable approaches used.

Exceptional community service achievements

a. Dedication of significant personal/professional time for charitable/community support activities.
b. Support of, and significant involvement in, the local community in a voluntary capacity.

Inspirational leadership in the field

a. Mentoring employees/younger people.
b. Initiating/encouraging innovative systems/practices.
c. Advocacy of equal opportunities, anti-discrimination etc.
d. Encouraging corporate philanthropy and community support.

Outstanding human qualities

a. Engaging in, or enabling personal philanthropy.
b. Demonstrable acts of kindness or heroism.
c. Success in the face of adversity.
d. Personal achievement outside of the professional arena.

Selection committee

The selection committee is chaired by Adrienne E Clarke AC, Chancellor of La Trobe University and made up of representatives from across the University. La Trobe University will award up to EIGHT awards per year across the categories. The selection committee is allowed complete discretion in determining award recipients.

The La Trobe University Chancellor or nominee may bestow a discretionary Alumni Award to an outstanding candidate who may have been previously overlooked in the nomination process.

The information submitted will be used by La Trobe University, in connection with the administration of the award only. All information will remain confidential.

Young Achiever Award

Presented to alumni under the age of 35. It is awarded to those who have achieved significant career success within a relatively short period of time.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Nominees must be an alumnus or alumna of La Trobe University (or an antecedent institution) who has demonstrated one or more of the following:

Outstanding professional achievements

a. Recognised as leader/expert in their field.
b. Significant achievement(s) throughout their career to date.
c. Evidence of ethical and/or innovative sustainable approaches used.
