Australia Day Honours

2017 recipients

Congratulations to the La Trobe alumni and staff members recognised in the 2017 Australia Day honours.

This year, two of La Trobe’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipients were recognised.

A very special congratulations to La Trobe alumnus and Australia Post CEO Ahmed Fahour, who was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO). The honour was bestowed to Fahour for his distinguished service to business, particularly in the area of postal communications, to the banking and investment sectors, and as a supporter of improved multicultural relations.

Fahour received a Bachelor of Economics with Honours from La Trobe in 1987, and has since become one of the most influential business leaders in the country.

Another special congratulations must go to La Trobe alumnus Jennifer Williams, who was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). Williams, who received a Bachelor of Economics from La Trobe in 1970, was honoured for her significant service to the community through leadership roles in the public health sector, and to NGO governance.

Williams’ achievements include the transformation of Austin Health, Alfred Health and the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.
