2009 Alumni Awards
La Trobe University recognised the personal and professional success of its prominent alumni at the annual Alumni Awards presentation ceremony on May 26, 2010.
Held at the National Gallery of Victoria, the ceremony was attended by 2009 award recipients, past recipients, distinguished guests, and senior University staff.
The event, hosted by Virginia Trioli, ABC News Breakfast presenter and alumna of La Trobe, included opening remarks from Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Johnson, while University Chancellor Ms Sylvia Walton presented the awards and closed the evening.
In addition to the Distinguished Alumni Award category – which recognises those who have exhibited outstanding professional or community service achievements, inspirational leadership, or exceptional human qualities – two new categories were introduced for this year’s presentation. The Young Achiever Award category was created to recognise exceptional early career achievers, and the Distinguished Fellowship, to honour those with a long association with the University who may not have studied or completed their studies at La Trobe.
In their acceptance speeches, many award recipients spoke fondly of their time with the University, having found these experiences richly rewarding. A number also spoke glowingly of the support of their lecturers during their studies, some of whom were present at the event.
