INTEGRATED HEALTH SERVICES MODULE

Introduction

The Integrated Health Services (IHS) Module is a service specific set of standards. These standards explore in more depth the unique service and program specifications for integrated health services. For QIC accreditation, organisations
review their integrated health services the Core Module and the IHS Module.

Main concepts for integrated health services

The standards for integrated health services are based on the following concepts:

  • A comprehensive view of health meeting the physical, social, emotional, cultural and environmental health needs.
  • The promotion of population and public health, which embraces health promotion models.
  • Accessible, available and affordable services based on principles of social justice and equity.
  • Systems integration into one service model.
  • Innovation and flexibility in service planning and delivery.
  • A multidisciplinary approach and multi-skilling of staff.
  • Community development principles ensure community choice in service mix.
  • A commitment to client/community collaboration, participation and involvement in the planning, evaluation and ongoing quality of service.
  • The promotion of health through working collaboratively with other sectors to address the social and environmental factors that inhibit health and wellbeing.

    IHS standards

There are five standards in the service specific standards:

    2.1 Integration and responsive
    2.2 Assessment & care
    2.3 Early Identification & intervention
    2.4 Promoting health
    2.5 Client & program records

    IHS quality journal

The document you complete when you self-assess against the IHS standards is called a “quality journal” and it is organised into sections following the service specific standards. An organisation must collect evidence about its systems and quality improvement activities in order to determine whether or not it meets a standard. As in the core module there are evidence questions to prompt your thinking about your systems. A QIC standards guide is available to support your self assessment.
