Postgraduate Research

The Australian Institute for Primary Care is a dedicated research and consultancy unit within the Health Research Division of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The goal of the AIPC is to make a significant, positive and enduring impact on the quality, efficiency and equity of health and community care services in Australia.

Applied research programs are conducted through the specialist units of the Institute:

  • The Centre for Health Systems Development
  • The Lincoln Centre for Research on Ageing

The Centre for Health Communication and Participation (part of the Cochrane Collaboration) is also located within the AIPC. The Quality Improvement Council and Health Issues Centre are associates of and collaborate with the AIPC on a range of projects.

Institute staff can provide research degree supervision in areas such as ageing and aged care (community-based aged care services, dementia services, carers, retirement and other life transitions), quality improvement in health and community services and primary health systems (methods and techniques, evaluation of approaches) and health services evaluation (health services policy and research, alcohol and drug, consumer participation).

Unique opportunities exist to work alongside skilled applied researchers, in consultation with policy-makers and service providers, with the shared goal of adding to the evidence base about and improving the design of health care systems in Victoria and across Australia.

Part-time employment as a research assistant or junior project worker while undertaking study may be available in some areas.

All enquiries should be directed in the first instance to Peter Foreman (03) 9479 1721, or email aipc@latrobe.edu.au
