  Strategic Plan 2006-2008
   
  Scope
 
The Institute’s Strategic Plan for the period 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2008 states the mission and goals of the Institute and identifies the strategic objectives the Institute intends to address in the next two years. Operational plans derive from the Strategic Plan and detail the outcomes, activities, responsibilities, resources and timelines related to the implementation of each strategic objective.
   
  Vision
 
The AIPC will be a national centre of excellence for the promotion of quality improvement, effective evaluation and best practice in all areas of primary health and community care services. It will be known for leadership in providing high quality evidence to underpin both policy and practice in these areas through innovative research and consultancy activities.
   
  Mission
 

The Institute’s mission is provide national leadership in the development of primary health and community care programs that are effective, equitable, and meet the health and support needs of Australians. The Institute’s goals are to:

  • Enhance the capacity of organisations and practitioners within primary health and community care to provide best practice care through evaluation, service development, education and quality improvement activities
  • Develop the knowledge base that supports good policy and best practice in primary health and community care settings Promote the integration of theory and practice in primary health care and community care practice
  • Work with and support governments and other key stakeholders in the development of policy that will lead to improved health and well being outcomes
  • Disseminate outcomes of the Institute’s research and related activities through publications and presentations
  • Promote the standing and visibility of primary health and community care services.
       
      Values and principles
     
    In pursing its mission and goals the AIPC will follow the following principles:
     
  • Priority will be given to research and development activities which address national health and social priorities
  • The AIPC will seek to work with stakeholders including service users in a genuinely collaborative way
  • All research and consulting activities will reflect ethical practice, independence and academic excellence.

      The AIPC has the following strategic objectives:
     
  • To maintain and enhance the achievement of high quality outcomes in all areas of Institute activity
  • To promote and extend Institute services and programs
  • To increase the Institute’s research profile
  • To consolidate the Institute’s operations, functions and systems
  • To maintain the Institute’s financial viability
  • To enhance Institute staffing resources.
