John Van Holsteyn

MBA, APESMA/Deakin, BSc (Hon), Deakin

APAI Fellow

After retiring from his position as Procurement Manager at a Multi-National Corporation, John took up the challenge of completing his degree in Psychology and undertake research, under an APAI award, into the retirement expectations and experiences of Baby Boomers within the Ageing Baby Boomers Australia (ABBA) project. ABBA is a collaborative research project between the University of Sydney and La Trobe University with National Seniors Australia and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) as industry partners.

John’s research question revolves around the Baby Boomers’ view of their personal retirement transition, the current changes in the concept of retirement and financial restraints, and their reaction to this new challenge, which may range from bewilderment to proactive involvement. He intends to complete his thesis in a full-time capacity in 2011.
