| Prior
to commencing with the Australian Institute for Primary
Care (AIPC), Angela worked for ten years at St Vincent's
Hospital, with 8 ½ years as the manager of the
Nutrition Department. She was involved then in a collaborative
research project in aged care for Deakin University and
Barwon Health.
Both
her Masters and PhD were completed through the Faculty
of Education at the University of Melbourne. Her Master's
thesis dealt with 'The Evaluation of the Community Advisory
Committee of the Austin Hospital' and her doctoral thesis
was titled 'Development of a model to promote optimal
training of final year dietetic students'. In the course
of her PhD, Angela designed several questionnaires dealing
with students' personal states and their perceptions of
clinical training in placement settings. Through the use
of qualitative and quantitative research methods, she
demonstrated that the two approaches are complementary
and can be used together successfully.
Her research interests include ageing, education and training,
and quality improvement in health and community services.
In
2006, Angela completed a course on 'Public Health Perspectives
on Ageing' and undertook postgraduate study in 'Public
Policy and Management' at Monash University. At the same
time, she accepted a part-time position with the AIPC
and has been involved in writing tenders and submissions,
managing projects and undertaking evaluations. She has
interviewed participants to attain data for ongoing research,
processed and analysed the data and written up the results.
Angela also completed training as a Review Manager with
Quality Improvement and Community Services Accreditation
(QICSA) and has participated in an accreditation of a
metropolitan community health service and a rural housing network.
She has submitted her modifications of the Situational
Leadership Model- adapting this framework for use in searching
for optimal outcomes for students and supervisors involved
in placement training. She has also submitted two papers
to peer review journals and is awaiting the response of
the reviewers. A further paper, co-authored by Angela,
titled 'Enhancing Nutritional Research within an Aged
Care Facility' was recently published.
Finally, she was commissioned to review the Postgraduate
Gerontology Program offered through the Australian Institute
for Primary Care. Her recommendations are being followed
and it is expected her report will be submitted for publication.
At present, Angela is involved in redesigning the gerontology
program. She is the unit co-ordinator for the Gerontology
Programs core unit Foundation Studies in Gerontology' and
is in charge of providing information about the program
to prospective students, as well as helping them to select
from the many available options - to choose ones that
are most likely to meet their needs and interests.
