Working Together to Achieve a Unified Response to the AIDS Epidemic

The Hong Kong AIDS Foundation

This session promoted was active discussion on the need of setting up a Global Chinese AIDS Network (G-CAN) in response to the growing problem of HIV/AIDS in Chinese communities. The aims of network would be: to facilitate the sharing of information and experience among members; to develop the knowledge and skills of members to enable effective intervention and prevention strategies; to build support among colleagues working with HIV/AIDS in communities; develop appropriate responses to the challenges posed by HIV/AIDS and to help gain funding support for programs in Chinese communities. Dr C.H. LEONG, Chairman of the Hong Kong AIDS Foundation (HKAF) was elected as Chairman of an interim steering committee and the HKAF nominated to set up a secretariat. The Network is anticipated as a vehicle for more effective prevention and intervention of HIV/AIDS in Chinese Communities.
